A public educationleader with more than three decades of experience, Dr. Greg Poole issuperintendent of Barbers Hill Independent School District (ISD) in Texas, aposition he has held since 2006. He has had a talent for leadership dating backto high school, when he was senior class president and a starter on hisschool's state championship varsity football team. From there, Dr. Greg Poolecompleted a bachelor's degree in mathematics in three years at Sam HoustonState University, where he later earned a master's in educational leadership.He received his doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&MUniversity.
Earlier in hiscareer, Dr. Poole spent 20 years at Conroe ISD, working as a math teacher,football coach, athletics director, principal, and executive principal. Amongother accomplishments, he led the Caney Creek High School Panthers to aDistrict 18-4A championship in 1998 and was named Coach of the Year. Dr. Poolelater served as principal at Caney Creek, leading the school to state exemplaryand recognized rankings in 2002, 2003, and 2005.
Since becomingBarbers Hill ISD superintendent, Dr. Poole has positioned the district as astate leader in teacher salaries while presiding over unprecedented growth. Inaddition, he helped plan and launch a college initiative and has an averagebond initiative approval rating of 80%. He was nominated for Superintendent ofthe Year in 2010 and is the second-longest serving administrator in BarbersHill ISD history.
An advocate forsports and other extracurricular activities in public education, Dr. Greg Pooleis also the second-longest serving board member on the UniversityInterscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council. He was elected to the councilin 2007 and named chair in 2012. He has also served in leadership roles withthe council’s standing committees on academics and athletics.
Dr. Poole comes froma family of educators and has been married for nearly 40 years to his wife, whoalso worked in public education. He has three children, all of whom haveattended Barbers Hill ISD schools.
